ABSTRACT

The authors report a series of 12 cases of mallet finger treated surgically by steel wire of barb-wire, all the patients were men with an average age of 32 years and the injury occurs basically in the little finger of the dominant hand. The patients were examined again about 2 years later on average. The results were good in 11 cases with recuperation of complete joint motion, a neuro algodystrophic syndrome with joint stiffness had been noted in one neurotonic patient. No complications such as infection or skin necrosis nor deformity or trophic or dysesthesia trouble had been noted

ABSTRACT

The sural flap is a fasciocutaneous flip pediculed on the sural nerve artery. This flap represent a good solution to cover soft tissue defects of the distal lower limb and proximal foot. 16 patients with age ranging from 12 to 45 years and with soft tissue defects of the lower leg due to various causes were treated with sural flap. On this basis we would like to reintroduce the safe and reliable use of the swat flap to treat large soft tissue defects of the distal lower limb and the proximal foot which sometimes is the only solution to cover those regions

ABSTRACT

Giant cell tumors of the tendon sheath [GCTTS] or tenosynovial giant cell tumors are a group of rare proliferative disorders which involves synovial johns and tendon sheaths. The authors report a series of 15 cases of giant cell tumors of the tendon sheath of the soft tissues of the hand collected between 2000 and 2005. In this series, the middle age at the time Of the diagnosis was 3S years. The sex ratio was 1.5. The tumor was located on the thumb on 5 patients, in the ring-finger in 4 cases and in the middle finger on 3 patients. There were 2 cases of giant cell tumors of the tendon sheath on the little finger and one case of giant cell tumor of the tendon sheath located on the forefinger. The clinical features were a polylobulated tumor, well limited, painless of firm consistence, adhesive on a deep level, the joints of the lingers were free, except for 2 patients who presented a limitation of the mobility of the proximal inter phalanxial joint. The standard radiological imagery of the hand centred on the finger presenting the tumor were normal, except on one case in which the tumor had invaded the bone letting a print on the third phalanx. A surgical biopsy was performed for all patients, the operative explorations found a polylobulated tumor, well limited, yellow-chamois with darker greyish strips. The histological study confirmed that it is a tenosynovial giant cell tumor and that there were not histological signs of malignancy. The results were valued with a middle receding of 3 years, there were not cases of post-operative infections nor algodystrophia. Concerning the functional level, one patient kept a limitation of the mobility on the proximal inter phalanxial joint. Only one case of tumoral recurrence was noted because the tumor had invaded the bone and the distal inter phalanxial joint

ABSTRACT

The lipoma are a fat tumors which are rare in the hand they can be lonely or take part of diffuse lipomatose. The physical examination is discerning of the other benign tumors by the "ice cube test" which is reliable and cheap. The treatment consist in surgical excision of all the tumor. Our work is based on retrospective study of 15 cases of hand ilpoma. The analysis shows that lipoma was more frequent in male, the avenge age was 40 years, the dominant hand was morely affected and the anatomopathologic analysis confirmed the diagnostic in all cases. None occurrence was happened after the excision of the tumor

ABSTRACT

The authors report a series of six patients who underwent couverage by the posterolateral thigh fasciocutaneous flap for cutaneous defects of the posterior surface of the knee. The defects were of various origin: post-traumatic in one case, post-infectious after excision of a phlegmon in a second case, and secondary to a release of a post bum retraction of the popliteal fossa in 4 cases. The majority of patients were men with an average age of 22 years. The patients were examined again about 2 years and a half later on average with results considered to be stable and of excellent quality on the cutaneous and functional level
